Friend David;
Thanks for thy greeting of welcome.....I have come back to Quakerism as I grew up among Evangelical Friends in Kansas Yearly Meeting in the '50's. At age 19, I joined the Episcopal Church because it was Ok to ask questions, etc..However, the Episcopal Church I joined no longer exists and even in 1974-76 when my ex-wife & I moved to Cotati/Rohnert Park and then to Santa Rosa while I attended a semester at Cal State College - Sonoma (now Sonoma University) and attended Redwood Forrest Monthly Meeting when they were still meeting at the old Catholic church bldg in Cotati. We were in the process of joinging the monthly meeting when I was "eldered" by the Liberals for talking too much about GOD & JESUS CHRIST in meeting for worship! That ended any further involvement with them. When we came back to Wichita Kansas, we attended University Friends Meeting (near Friends University) & attended sometime. Ultimately, we went our separate ways and I 'gave up" on churchianity...Period! However, The Inner Light of JEsus Christ kept nudging to check with Conservative Friends through the WWWNet....and I am now affiliated with Ohio Yearly Meeting of Friends (Conservative)....though there is no meeting here in northern mid-central Louisiana. A friend and I plan to move to Portland Oregon & I have not been successful in finding ANY Friends/Quakers there listed on line; there are a 'bunch' of Evangelical Friends further south from Portland, especially with George Fox College at Newberg.....home to Northwest Yearly Metting EFC! "Theologically" I am Conservative Quaker....FGC too far left & EFA too far right for me....so I hope this 'epistle' answers thy questions.
Very happy to meet you here! There is something in Quakerism that attracts many of us later in life. What was it for you? Did you also come back to Christian convictions, or were they always present for you?
Did you know that QuakerQuaker is 100% reader supported? Our costs run to about $50/month. If you think this kind of outreach and conversation is important, please support it with a monthly subscription or one-time gift.
