Here at "Spirit and Truth" hospital we treat, in silence, everything from chronic racism to acute homophobia. We know, from experience, that just as depression is anger turned inward so also despair is oppression internalized.

In here, dysfunction has become the norm; and every condition, from self-identifying to self-destruction, is alternately embraced and rebelled against. Cases of feminist-fever, white-makes-right syndrome, stinking thinking, and gender-role resentment walk in the door as often as it is opened.

Efforts to correct these maladies have mostly been in vain - due either to the investment made in them or the lure of victimization. Therapies have actually increased the onset and intensity of episodes of disaffection and alienation. Even comic relief, as Jon Stewart's recent spoof of the black man vis-a-vis  police brutality, leads us to consider whether Space is the only, if final, frontier for healthy re-adjustment to racial discrimination on earth.

Likewise, vegan diet, business/bank boycott, and ice bucket baths are soon added oppression, as pressure, to self-affirmative behavior. But nothing helps and no one really cares that the effects of these internalized dominations/demons are blatantly evident and reported daily.

That is why the original Quaker establishment promoted liberation lobotomies in Christ(Galatians 3:28)!

I think what the initial Quaker movement recommended was more like: Let Christ show it to you; then you'll see what if anything you're called to do about it. Leaving out that initial step just leads to brain surgery in the dark.
