Early Quakers and the Kingdom of God

SO I turned to this book because I’m one of those peculiar people who read early Quaker tracts and I was looking for theological and historical context in which to understand what I was reading. This book delivers. I now have a better appreciation of how what is going on in the texts I am reading may be quite different depending on whether they were written in the interregnum or the restoration.

Comment by David McKay on 7th mo. 1, 2017 at 2:17pm: The author of this book is well aware that the Gospel of John had an influence on first Friends. However the aspect of early friends that he wants to look at is the concept of the "Kingdom of God/Heaven". And that concept — at least in name — is pretty much an exclusive synoptic concept. The notion that the reign of God on earth is mediated and embodied in Jesus is very much present in John it's closed in metaphor. And so it takes different tools to interpret.
