Hello, Steve!  The first step in spiritual growth is to admit one's own insufficiency and need.  So your acknowledged "spiritual depauperation" may be a blessing, rather than an occasion for sadness.  "Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief!'"
