"The Myth of the Neutral Tool: An Animist's Thoughts on Guns (And Other Ordinary Things)," by Alison Leigh Lilly

A difficult and powerful testimony from Alison Leigh Lilly (http://alisonleighlilly.com/about/).

Please read Alison's whole blog post at http://alisonleighlilly.com/blog/2015/the-myth-of-the-neutral-tool-....

"This is the first thing we must accept: that the land is alive, and that it shapes us. There is nothing which does not touch us, that does not leave its mark....

"All day, the ordinary tools of my life define me, shaping my perceptions, directing my gaze.... Without my tools, the world comes rushing in on me from every direction and I am brought to my knees by the weight of it.

"This is something we must accept: A gun is not a neutral tool, it can only be a weapon....

"There is no such thing as a neutral tool. Only the tools that tame us, claim us as their own — and the tools that we can still choose to lay down....

"This is enough. Put down the gun. You do not need it."
