As a Quaker who walks in the way of Christ, I find the whole defense of
marriage concept as wrong headed and internally conflicted. The
Constitution of the United States, neither confirms nor denies the

Thank you for your servce II
Today we received our issue of the Christian Peace Maker Team publication. I realized I had the same reaction that I talked about in the first "thank you for your service," post.
Only when I hear of CPS, or AFSC volunteers or staff members, I take them for granted a bit. I will make sure I thank these peace soldiers for their service as well.

I did it. Maybe because my father is a vet, maybe because I have seen my uncle in rages over dishes which I now know were PTSD episodes.
I became a Quaker.
and then,
I said "thank you for your service" to the guy in uniform at the airport, and today to the Medical Assistant who served at an prison in Iraq.
I am not torn about it. Only sad they were/are there. And not with their families, not all the time working for peace.

Quaker Speak: waaay to little or just too much. Simply confusing.
A few years after attending my first meeting I used to joke (probably itself not a form of simple speech) If you did not like to read it would take you a long while to understand Quakerism--Quakers (the ones I was amongst) did not like to share/evangelize/ offend. After a Time, All Losses are the Same
This past holiday weekend I visited two Civil War battlefields: Antietam and Gettysburg. While part of my motivation to go was purely the tourist's curiosity, I also went to remind myself of the multitude of ironies present in armed conflict.
