The Minnesota legislature is considering passing a law allowing for full marriage equality. It's made me think of my own marriage to Liz on May 20, 2000 at Twin Cities Friends Meeting, and the very large and beautiful certificate we have on our wall. And it made me ask a question of TCFM, what, if any, accommodation will TCFM make for couples whose marriage they took under their care before it became legal to file for a marriage licence?
TCFM is taking the question under consideration…

This letter I wrote to a straight Friend after she yelled at another Friend last night on the phone. We were phone banking people who have made a commitment to fight the constitutional amendment on marriage in Minnesota.
Dear Straight Friend,
I’m sorry getting a phone call from another Friend, who wanted to talk with you about having conversations with your friends and neighbors about the…

I
just read a new New Yorker article from Malcolm Gladwell called Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted. Because I am a Quaker and believe strongly in equality and egalitarianism, I wanted to argue with… Continue

Is there anyone out there going to the Friends Council on Education diversity summit on social class Feb 8-9 at Pendle Hill?
I'm writing an article for Friends Journal about Quaker education and social class (tentatively approved by FJ) and would love to talk to attendees, both before and after, about their concerns and their experiences at this event.

A number of years back, I saw a flow chart that, in a funny way, made clear the process that some Friends go through before they stand to give ministry in Meeting.
Anyone have a copy of that they can scan and post or send to me and I'll post? I keep wanting to refer to it (for myself but also to show others).

My almost-eight-year-old niece showed me a picture she drew of the world. And Africa is very tiny, and when I told her that it's actually huge, that more than a few maps of the US could fit over the actual map of Africa, she didn't believe me.
So today I went searching for maps that would show her some persepective and found worldmapper.org. You can look at land mass based on all sorts of criteria like literacy, disaster, and religion. I had fun exploring and found this map of the…

I read this morning an interesting New York Times magazine article on the rise of a "New Calvanism" as embodied by one preacher and church in particular: Mark Driscoll and Mars Hill.
Thought folks here might be interested. And I wonder what Convergent folks think about it.
Here's the long article.
