Seven years ago, I was a devout Catholic. I had been raised Catholic by parents who didn't actually believe in God or Catholicism, and by the time I finished high school I didn't believe either. But then, years later at a difficult time in my life, a friend invited me to attend a local Catholic church with her, and it felt like coming home. Departed Friends and Memorial Day

In my unprogrammed meeting we have one program and I'm on the program committee that plans it. It's called "Connections," and it falls between the two worship hours. Last Sunday, Pentecost for those who believe in liturgy, we planned for Connections a worship sharing on the topic of departed elders. I have been an attender/member of Friends since I was born. My father was a Friends minister in FUM, but I have been an adult member of Meetings in EFCI, FUM, FGC, Independent, and Conservative Yearly Meetings. A retired educator who has taught mainly Chemistry and Physics at the high school level, but I also have been a Campus Minister at a Friends college and a teacher of Friends "Faith and Practice" in a K-12 Friends School. (I have even "begun" a "Virtual Friends School" meant to facilitate a "Friends Education" exchange of ideas and approaches for home schoolers or others interested in Friends Education.
