Hello, Ray!

I have long been intrigued (and mystified!) by the Old Catholics.  I have been aware for many years of an affinity between some Eastern Orthodox and the Society of Friends, but this is my first "screen-to-screen" encounter with an Old Catholic!

I was once a graduate teaching assistant to the Orthodox priest who served the Lansing MI area.  He was also a sociologist, and I assisted him with the Sociology of Religion course at Michigan State University.

He advanced to me a model of the affective dynamics of a Friends' meeting for worship.  At the time, I didn't put much stock in what he said, but now I think he hit the nail on the head rather accurately.

In any case, welcome once again to QQ.  I look forward to your input into the dialogue here!

By the way, is there a significant Old Catholic community in New Zealand?  And what does "TSSF" stand for?

Hello, Ray!  Welcome to QQ! Your self-description is unique: "Priest, theologian, Quaker & TSSF."  How do you put these various facets of your persona together?

You mention that "the word 'God' carries with it a lot of baggage."  What baggage does it carry as you reference God?
