Profile Information

About Me
ProNica is a Quaker-founded NGO that assists in creating and sustaining programs by and for the Nicaraguan people. These projects are initiated by Nicaraguans and hold promise for grassroots growth, arise from Nicaraguan needs and tradition, and promote empowerment.

ProNica’s priorities are on community cohesiveness and economic development, non-violence conflict resolution training, health, education, agriculture and women’s empowerment. We seek to link Nicaraguan people with concerned individuals internationally to promote understanding and mutual action.

Our work is accomplished by an international core of dedicated volunteers and staff who practice Quaker principles of consensual decision making, respecting that of God in everyone. This service project arose out of our deep concern over international exploitation of people and resources and our wish to respond in practical and constructive ways.

Posted on 5th mo. 6, 2013 at 3:00pm 0 Comments

Tania Citvaras, a Florida resident, has been helping children in the developing world most of her life.  In Nicaragua she was a member of work brigades which helped build wells.  In 2007, she helped over forty children in Nicaragua's historic city of Granada, buying them backpacks and school supplies and throwing a party for them, complete with ice cream and acrobats.

In 2010, she met former ProNica…

More Meaningful Than Any Vacation

Posted on 12th mo. 7, 2012 at 5:30pm 0 Comments

There are many things a Quaker couple can do together for adventure, relaxation, spiritual enrichment or simply for fun. My wife Pam and I are fortunate enough do all of those things, but the one that never fails to nurture us the most is our annual trip to Nicaragua. I write these words as our plane lifts off the runway in Managua, and I am overwhelmed by the Spirit as my wife, Pam and I realize once again that we have been blessed, very blessed with a life that…

What an adorable child - I imagine there's good cooking to be had in your part of the world. It's just the climate that I'm concerned about these days. Peace out.
