Why beards?

scot miller replied to Kitt Eileen Reidy's discussion 'Why beards?'
"I wear a beard as often, facial features and the need to Trim or, have just the right 3'o'clock shadow, are vanities. An untrimmed beard avoids what might turn into a vanity for me. Also, plain Friends often eschew jewelry of any kind…"

Why beards?

I'm doing research for a play that I'm writing. Why do you wear a beard? Is the beard an expression or witness to your faith? Is it part of a spiritual practice? A cultural norm? How would you react if someone insisted that you should shave your beard? Is there any question I am missing about beards? Thanks!

Music and the Arts

Historically Friends worried that music and the arts could serve as spiritual distractions but today many are involved in the arts. Share you work, along with your views of the role of the arts in contemporary Quaker culture. Tag: arts.

Hello, Friend Kitt!

Thou hast come through some troubling and deep waters, as I have, but keep on going forth. Cast not aside thy confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. (Something I need to remember.) Keep thy faith and heart with all diligence. Thou hast courage, keep drawing on that courage. God is all knowing, and this is not thy fault! Don't do as I have and blame thyself! "Sometimes I get my trousers caught on my own pitchfork," so to speak. . . God is kind to thee and me, and we should be kind to ourselves, yea?
