Green insect repellents for summer

Have any to add? Please do!  Here are some simple insect repellents made from herbs:  Tansy: This herb is commonly used for repelling many different kinds of insects. It can be used a fly repellent when hung in bunches near doorways and window (Use it in your barn! It works to protect animals too!). To repel ants, sprinkle dried and crumbled tansy flower and leaf around the house foundation, cupboards, and anywhere in their path. Warning: Tansy is toxic to animals and humans when eaten in large…See More

Vegetarian/Vegan recipes

Hello all!   I hope this finds you in good heath and spirits!   I've been an on again, off again veggie head (vegetarian) for years now. One of the hardest things I find about being a vegetarian, especially when starting out, is recipes. When you've eaten a certain way you whole life it becomes hard to think about how you will eat without meat (or eggs and milk).   I was thinking it would be nice if we could do something like a recipe swap. Maybe share some of your favorite vegetarian/vegan…See More

Your story

Hello, My name is Brianna (but everyone calls me Bree) and I am currently living in the tundra of north of Michigan (Yes, it is STILL cold here). I was wondering what drew you to Quakerism. Was it a path you were born into, one that you found, or one that found you?   Personally, I think this path found me. There were no glowing angels in the sky beckoning me to a picture of George Fox and whispering that this was the way for me, just this strange realization since I was a child that this was…See More

"Dear Jim,  Thank you for your reply! I must admit I overlooked that aspect. You are very correct- Buddhism teaches about an afterlife and sects like Jodo Shinshu are huge and seem to be mostly about the afterlife. I suppose I wrote incorrectly.…"

Profile Information

About Me
I'm just a nerdy girl from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I'm some what of a literary geek and I tend to write things that only make sense to those as insane as I. I enjoy knitting, crocheting, and all around creating. I've been on a self sustainability kick for the last few years which causes me to yearn for a small farm that I keep pretending will suddenly appear.

I also like to say I am a vegetarian, which is mostly true, I just have a soft spot for bacon =]

I grew up as a Pastor's daughter and learned to follow my own path. That path lead me through 5 years in Buddhism, 2 studying neo-paganism and now here. I can remember saying that I would be a Quaker as I was growing up, even though I never knew what that meant. Now after some seeking I find myself here, trying to learn about the faith that I had always admired and always respected. I've got a thousand questions and an open mind and heart. I think that is a good start.
