Bill Smith replied to Jay Thatcher's discussion 'What does Beanite mean?' in the group Oregon Convergent
Beanite is the same kind of term as Wilburite, Gurneyite, and Hicksite. It refers to the historic person that these groups identified with in their beginning. ( Joel and Hannah Bean, John Wilbur, JJ Gurney, and Elias Hicks.) All of these groups…

Bill Smith commented on Bill Smith's blog post 'Why is the security for users so severe on PYM WEBSITE'
Thank goodness I am talking about Philadelphia YM interactive aspects.  We can now createa provile but this does nothing towards access to interactive access.  It takes three proof that you are a human to make a comment and then the…

Are you talking about the Spacific Yearly Meeting site, or that other PYM? (I've been confused about this ever since I ventured to Philadelphia and was surprised how many people had been there!

Why is the security for users so severe on PYM WEBSITE

When accessing the miniutes from the session just past, I had a few comments to add that might make this more useful.  I had to log in to my account. Then I had to prove I was human about 3 times before I could submit my comments to and unknow censor before it will appear.   This seems like a way to dicourage communication rather than promote it.  Three of main choices on the home page of PYM.ORG take you to pages related preparing for the past sessions.  What does this say to seekers trying to…See More

Henry--   Thanks for stating this. This is also my experience of smaller meetings and worship groups in this and other yearly meetings.   When I first came to Friends (in a relatively new monthly meeting with no existing yearly meeting) an…

The Quaker Witness against "hireling Clergy" but not released Ministers

I for one do not find the cuts in staffing to be in the best interests of thelocal meetings and their members. This what I thought made up a Yearly Meeting, When I came from the Midwest, Ohio, I was surprised to hear the yearly meeting staff at 1515 Cherry being referred to as the yearly meeting. There are at least three different things called Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, staff, Annual Session, and Members of local meetings affiliated as PYM. The staff has grown beyond what is necessary for… Continue

Hi Bill: whoops, just seeing your August 6 message. Sorry about that, I find I sometimes miss Ning messages, best to email me at martink@martinkelley.com if you want to insure I see it.

I have a million things on my plate but I'd be happy to try to look at what you all are doing. It's much needed work. You might have looked through my Quaker Ranter stuff, but if not, here's a link to the Quakerism 101 material there (including a piece written around the time I was at Moorestown!).

ps: If the site you're doing doesn't work out, we can set up a group here on QuakerQuaker--either open or private.

Daily Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 28 and Galatians 6

Deuteronomy 28 – If you obey the voice of God by observing the law, you will prosper.  Disobedience will bring destruction (28:45). The big word in this chapter, as in others, is if or “provided” or “so long as.”  This is the great condition that hangs over the redemption people.  The word does not disappear under the new covenant either as we sometimes like to think.  “You are my friends if you do as I command you.” (John 15:14).  The convincing power of the gospel is not in its syllogistic…See More

Where ministry meets livelihood

Listen to this post: http://www.turtleboxstories.com/audio/whereministrymeets.mp3 Yesterday was sandwiched between a traditional Bible study and a new women's group on astrology and archetypes. Could I have chosen anything more different? One is an ongoing study of Luke that my mother initiated in December with, mostly, retired women. I felt called to join because when else might I have the chance to do a Bible study…See More
