Hi all,

Does anyone know of a picture book about Meeting for Worship. We have the booklet: We're Going To Meeting for Worship, but it's not very reflective of seeking to be led by God. It's a sweet booklet, but I am hoping to find something a little more... deep, I guess.

Thanks!

Thanks, Tom. I'll be glad for anything you can pass along. I just reserved God's Dream at my library. Looking forward to reading it.

Thy Friend, Obadiah (Brinton Turkle) shows the family going to Meeting for Worship and briefly shows them sitting in worship. So does Obadiah the Brave, I think. I seem to recall that Obadiah was having trouble keeping his mind on God because he kept thinking about his spyglass at home. In both cases I think it's kind of incidental to the story but still a good addition to a young Quaker child's library.

Benjamin the Meetinghouse Mouse (Clifford Pfiel) -- it's been awhile since I read it. I think it perpetuates that idea that the adults "sit in that other room waiting for us kids while we play, then we all have snacks," but there is indeed explicit reference to meeting for worship.

The Other Way to Listen (Baylor Byrd) -- I have used this one in First Day School and with my own preschooler. It's not about Quaker worship but it's as close as any children's book I've read to talking about what happens during Meeting for Worship.

Peaceful Piggy Meditation (Kerry Lee Maclean) -- it's really secular but for a kid who's trying to learn the mechanics of how to quiet one's mind in order to be able to listen, it's quite good.

Most if not all of these are available through quakerbooks.org.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting keeps some really great book lists on their library's web site -- something on it might inspire you. http://www.pym.org/pm/library_col.php

So far, I haven't found one book in particular that covers Worship the way I'd hope, so building this mosaic from different books and perspectives seems to work.
Thanks so much, Kathleen. I'll check all this out!

We picked up our copy of God's Dream at the library today, and it is a lovely book! I'm so glad to know about it, and we all enjoyed reading it.
