Is there a way to support students through their high school years so they can attend school without fear of burdening their families so much? It does benefit everyone to have a well educated populace capable of critical thinking. Are the staff not unionized and the cost of high school not socialized? Uganda has free education until high school why not the united states? Can meetings for worship take these on or have they already? Ethically invested trusts to cover scholarships for different region's young people might be a start. What help do you need from more successful countries like Finland that they might offer in a sister school program? Could they educate your teachers for you?

I am becoming deeply, deeply concerned at the tuition of Quaker schools, particularly high schools. Many "Quaker" high schools are far, far, far out of range of the average middle class person and just a glimmer of a dream for lower income persons. I know Quaker high schools are very popular, they are attracting upper income, non-Quaker staff and students. How is that Quaker?  I think that as Quakers we need to make some sort of communal commitment to every Quaker child who wants a Quaker education that it would be available. 30K for a year of high school??? Absolute insanity.

Just got the job as Clerk for the Friends in Public Education Working Group for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Looking to breathe some life back into this group. Friends in the PYM region who have any interest in public education in any capacity, please contact me. Peace!
