Dear friends,

Is there a place on line where I can find Quaker spiritual meditations?

A valued colleague is creating a list of links to Christian mystical meditations.  She asked me if I knew where any Quaker meditations are posted on line.

I googled Pat (and "Patricia") Loring, but found only links where one can purchase hard copies of her books.  I did find some relevant Pendle Hill pamphlets in PDF format (from the 1940s and '50s).

Any other leads would be appreciated.

You can let me know at dhoffmanlaw@earthlink.net, or correspond directly with my friend Ruah Bull at  ruahb@sbcglobal.net.  If you write directly to Ruah, you might want to mention my name.

Thanks and blessings:

Hi David,

I've read Rex Ambler's book Light to Live By and used the meditations therein. Here are other meditations, although I haven't tried them myself:

Dear David:

William Shewen's Meditations & Experiences re available to read online at www.innerlightbooks.com. There are 70 meditations that examine the basic tenets of Quaker Faith & Practice from a 17th century point of view.
Thank you Charles and Barbara !

This is the first I've known of either of these individuals or their writings on Faith.

David: The best place to find "Quaker spiritual meditations", in my experience, is in the journals and memoirs of Friends from the past. Most but not all of these were written by, or about, ministers.
Many are aware of the journals of George Fox and John Woolman, but these represent only the tip of the iceberg. Some other journals have been republished, such as Levi Coffin, Allen Jay and Elias Hicks. Many of these are outstanding, including Rhoda Coffin, Stephen Grellet and Richard Jordan. A few modern memoirs, such as Lewis Benson and Wilmer Cooper, have merit. If you want specific recommendations, indicate what you are looking for and I would be happy to help.
The text of some of these journals probably appears online at the Quaker Digital Collection, if I have the name right.
