Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
Thanks to all who have helped to test the Android Quaker Application. I have (finally) made the changes recommended by testers (darker background) and published in on the Android Play store.
I invite Friends with Android smart phones (or other Android devices) to download the new version. I would ask all Friends to share the news about this app.
This is not a traditional app, but a "widget" that will display a different quote from George Fox on each day of the year. Installation and activation is easy, but if you have not installed a widget before, it will be a new experience.
If the Lord wills, the next project will be add a "Quaker Finder" function. If I succeed in that, then one will be able to find the closest meetings wherever one is, as long as a smart phone is available.
If Friends have comments or suggestions about current or future functionality, I would be delighted to hear. Email me a QuakerApp@gmail.com.
Chip Thomas.
======Original Post from 3rd month below=======
I have written an Android Quaker Application and am looking for Friends to help test it.
The App is really a "Widget". When installed and configured it will display a quote from George Fox (for each day of the year) on your phone.
Before I put it on the official Android market place I would like to have a friendly audience run it through its paces. If thee is intrested and has an Android phone thee can download and install it by entering the following URL into thy phone's browser (or browse to this classified and link).

Many thanks,
Chip Thomas

The only issue I have is that it's a bit difficult to read the text on the far left--not quite enough contrast between text and background. Other than that or looks great!

Permalink Reply by Chip Thomas on 3rd mo. 15, 2012 at 7:37am Oh yeah, after you bring up the full quote (touch on medium size) try the menu key. It will bring up more options.

Chip -- Can we link this to the Tract Association's web page? I'll need to reactivate my Android, though... It was hiding for weeks.

Is thee asking me how the "Mind the Heavenly Treasure" link for the TAF site is going? If so, I am actually working on that now (and running into some glitchs).
If thee is asking about distributing the QuakerApp on the TAF site, that should be fairly easy. But there are a few things to keep in mind in that regard. The first is that we are still in the testing phase. If TAF wants to distribute software, they would probably prefer to have it fully tested. Also, I fully intend to publish this on the standard Android Marketplace. So a TAF publication would be somewhat redundant. Finally, to use an app that is not distributed through the standard market place requires the user to change a specific setting on their phone. For some this is a security concern. Even with these concerns, it is not uncommon to distribute outside of the standard market place. If this is what thee is really asking, then I would be easy with it.
But I might have completely misread thy question. Let me know.

I just installed the medium-sized widget and it's great! Thank you
Permalink Reply by Jon on 5th mo. 5, 2012 at 6:56pm I have used the larger version of the widget, which displayed the quote. I enjoyed reading the sayings each day. I then re-sized the widget to the smaller icon, which you have to open to read. I actually like it better because you get the saying plus another supporting saying.
The only issue I had was the contrast in the upper left corner on the larger widget. Using the smaller widget, the contrast is better.
Thank you

My plan is to fix that and then publish on the Android market place (now called the "Play Store"). But I have been snowed under with the Spring garden, projects at work and some responsibilties in my Meeting. Hope to get to it soon.
