Continuation of discussion started on Blog - New to Plain Dress.

I wrote a Blog post asking for people to share their experience of switching to Quaker Plain Dress,I have now closed comments on the blog post, as I was not getting so many people sharing their experience as asking questions about reasons for Plain dress.

So this is the place to continue the questions that people were asking and the discussions that arise from the subject "Plain Dress".

I wonder if people understand the fragility one can feel when under Guidance that places one in opposition to the majority of people in one's world? I don't just mean other Quakers, though that is something, but also every one at the grocery store and every one at the bank. It is hard. It is awkward. It can be painful. It is also, simultaneously, wonderful to feel what it is like to be walking in Obedience, to feel one has been Called to something in particular and to feel one is making the steps God is asking of one in one's life.

I talk about how what people post makes me feel not to try to control things, which would seem a fair perception to me, though that is not my desire, but as to inform: it is my assumption people don't actually want to discourage or distress people mostly. And that they do inadvertently distress people, particularly those who are younger in their plain journey, is meant as information not accusation. But all of this is extremely difficult online, and always blows up like this. I've seen it happen over and over here on QQ and I don't know any way to prevent it.

well i think we are all human and the imperfections of our words can make us weak. I have lived in many places all over the world and even thought people still speek english or french or whatever language they may be they identify to the same words diffriently . Like I see you used the word Obedience diffriently that what I interperated it to be - your obedience is what i call my found truth. It is simply lost in translation and I am sure no one means to have it happen . Anyways lets perhaps start a nother topic, perhaps on something we all can testify too - Gods love . or christs light . Peace to all xxx

Oh Tamara! I did not in any way take offense at anything you said! I'm not sure what you are referring to? I was empathizing with what i perceived to be your interest in Conservative Friends and leadings etc. Verbal communication is so hard! Especially when it is long distance. I would be happy to communicate offline. I thought I was just sharing my own experience. My apologies if you took offense at anything I said.

Plain dress is how we interprate it and as long as we are striving for modesy and simplicty any small change we make can only get us that much closer to the light and finding the peace we need inside to fufill that message . I do have a question for conservative friends , do yo use cosmetics, perhaps not make up but other modern luxories such as lotions , creams , purfumes ect .....?
