Event Description
And when all my hopes in them and in all men were gone, so that I had nothing outwardly to help me, nor could tell what to do, then, Oh then, I heard a voice which said, ‘There is one, even Christ Jesus, that can speak to thy condition’, and when I heard it my heart did leap for joy. (George Fox, 1647) ...for when I came into the silent assemblies of God's people, I felt a secret power among them, which touched my heart, and as I gave way unto it, I found the evil weakening in me, and the good raised up, and so I became thus knit and united unto them, hungering more and more after the increase of this power and life, whereby I might feel myself perfectly redeemed. (Robert Barclay, 1675)
If Jesus Christ is that aspect of God which speaks to your condition, then come join us in a time of extended worship, sharing our walk with Christ, and resting in the fellowship of other Christ-centered Friends. In this gathering, we will seek to be renewed to follow Christ that we may better do the will of God with the gifts and strengths we have been given. It is meant to be a time of rejoicing, reflection, and growing as Friends in the Spirit of Christ. Please join us for this regional gathering to praise, worship, and share (and/or listen) as led by the Spirit.
This gathering has been planned by and for Friends from New York, New England, and Ohio Yearly Meetings. Our time together will be supported by these Friends (Ann Armstrong, John Edminster, Seth Hinshaw, Reb MacKenzie, Christopher Sammond), along with a group of elders from these yearly meetings. Friends from other meetings are most welcome, as well. All are welcome who know themselves to be Friends centered in Christ, or who are drawn to be.

The weekend appeared to be an interesting time of cross-fertilization among Christian Friends of the northeastern United States. The following is an epistle that the meeting approved:
Eighth Month 30, 2009
To Friends everywhere, and to all who seek love, joy, hope, and meaning in life:
We, a group of Friends gathering at Powell House in Old Chatham, NY for a weekend entitled “Following Jesus in Community,” send our loving greetings to you. We’ve come from places ranging from Maine to Virginia and Ohio and from a variety of Quaker traditions. We have shared our personal experiences of the love of the living Jesus Christ and have been buoyed and stirred by Christ’s healing and forgiving presence among us this weekend. We want to invite you into the joy, hope and love we have known here.
We experienced a divine covering that helped to reconcile us all, dissolving many anxieties some of us felt in gathering with strangers whose theological tendencies we did not know. Knowing that language and doctrinal notions have caused unnecessary divisions among people of faith, we have no desire to add to these, but simply to stand with Jesus Christ at an open door, where He offers His light and love. We have found that these are available to everyone. We are eager to share the experiences that have liberated us from so many burdens and sorrows in hopes that you and others may know the same joy.
We intend to meet again within the year, and invite inquiries to:

It was just a day trip, but it was a good day of worship and fellowship and increasing understanding and appreciation. I pray the rest of the weekend continues to be blessed by the Lord.
